Did you know that tourism is one of the industries that most pollute? It represents 8% of emission of the greenhouse gases all around the world. The same way, a report from the United Nations for the Environment affirms that, on the high season, the marine trash in the Mediterranean region increases up to 40%. The unique use of the plastic allied to the phenomenon of the mass tourism has been impacting a lot the touristic regions.

According to UNO, “much of the plastic used for tourism is done to be discarded and does not have recycling, generating a huge pollution”. Although there are factors that go beyond the individual, we can adopt new habits to travel with responsibility. It is by these means that it appears sustainable alternatives, like the zero trash.

The zero waste, or “zero trash” is a life style that promotes the responsible consumerism.

This way, at this point, it is fundamental to be alert to the use we give to each product that we acquire. And, during trips, it is also common to buy more things than when we are at home.

Usually we buy souvenirs, food for the trip, we accumulate tickets, shop at malls and so on. So, how can we reduce the quantity of trash that we produce?

Here there are some tips for you to put in practice, in the trips as well as in your day-by-day.

1. AVOID FAST FOOD

The best waste is that one that is not generated. Thus, the first step to reduce the quantity of waste is to cook our own food. Besides, you will save money! If you do not have time or space for that and need to appeal to fast options, choose products whose packaging are not made of plastic.

2. CREATE YOUR OWN SUSTAINABLE KIT

Create a reusing kit of “zero trash” to take anywhere. It is very simple! Choose the bottle which you most like, thermic cup for coffee, cutlery, napkin and cloth bag.

If you want to expand your hygiene bag, you can add a bamboo toothbrush, metal straws and a vegetable loofah for showering. Add as many products as you want. It is important to avoid the disposable ones.

3. IDENTIFY DISCARD ECOPOINTS ON THE DESTINY

It is important to know where it is possible to recycle materials like glass, metal, plastic, paper and cardboard, among others. Remember that we are only for visiting and that it is our duty to leave the place the way we found it when we arrived, or even better! It is our obligation to take care of the environment and preserve it!
